Ghost on: Common Sense for the Young: On Fiat, Fraud, and the Future (A Pamphlet for the Dispossessed, in the style of Thomas Paine)

When in the course of this new digital monarchy, it becomes necessary for a generation to cast off the enchantments of a dying order, let us speak plainly, with the honesty of despair and the courage of fools. Let us examine not only the visible chains of our condition, but the invisible ones—the money in our pocket, the debt in our name, and the faith on which all “wealth” now rests.

I. The Mirage of Inheritance: You Will Receive, but It Will Not Endure

We are told, my fellow youth, that the greatest inheritance in history awaits us: seventy trillion dollars, or so the elders say.
But examine the coin you hold, and you will see it is stamped not in gold, nor in silver, nor in the sweat of honest toil, but in the thin air of a banker’s will—fiat, “let it be.”
Your inheritance is an IOU from a magician; a promise written in disappearing ink; a claim on future labor, future land, future faith.
What is an inheritance denominated in fiat? It is not property, but a wager that the story will continue, that the spell will hold.

II. On Fiat Currency: The Paper King

Once, money was a claim on something real—a bushel of wheat, a strip of land, a day’s labor. Now, it is a government’s word, and the word can be changed, stretched, multiplied, erased.
Fiat currency is a king that reigns by decree, not by substance.
It expands as it wishes; it buys peace today at the cost of war tomorrow; it purchases comfort for the few at the expense of the many, yet always it demands faith, for faith alone makes it real.
If you save, your savings are eaten by the silent thief of inflation. If you work, your wages are devalued by the mint’s endless printing. If you inherit, you inherit a promise that can be revoked at the stroke of a pen.

III. On Debt: The Birthright Stolen in Advance

The state borrows and spends in your name; every benefit paid today is a debt written in your tomorrow.
You are not the heir; you are the collateral.
Your education, your healthcare, your infrastructure—all mortgaged to fund the appeasement of those who already own.
This is not stewardship but strip-mining: a harvest of the future to silence unrest in the present.

IV. On Anxiety: The Rational Response to Fiat Madness

They say you are anxious, you are lost, you are ungrateful.
But what greater cause for anxiety than to see that all value is built on promises, that all “wealth” is built on debt, that all security is built on the consent of the governed—and that consent is wearing thin?
You are right to worry. You are right to doubt.
The system that offers you cheer is the same that sells you into wage slavery, drowns you in student loans, and offers you an inheritance made of vapor and dreams.

V. On Optimism: The New Tyranny

You are told to “look on the bright side,” to “be flexible,” to “seize opportunity”—but you are offered only the chance to run ever faster on a wheel that spins to nowhere.
The bright side is a distraction, a command to adjust your mood, not your conditions.

VI. What Is To Be Done?

You must demand a reckoning.
Refuse to accept an inheritance measured in fiat. Demand value that endures: land, skills, community, autonomy, not IOUs and empty titles.
Insist that money be anchored to the real, or else declare your independence from the currency of the king.
You must understand that true wealth is not what you inherit, but what you build and defend: your time, your mind, your labor, your bonds with others.

If they give you fiat, give them back your skepticism. If they offer debt, offer resistance.
If they offer you “opportunity,” demand justice.

VII. On Hope and Defiance

Let your anxiety be a signal, not a sickness.
Let your doubt be the first act of freedom.
Let your generation be the first in a century to say: we will not inherit your illusions. We will not trade our future for the comfort of the present.
We will demand a currency worthy of our labor, a system worthy of our trust, a future worthy of our name.

For as long as money is conjured from nothing, the future will belong to those who can write the story. Do not let them write it for you.
